Poker is a game that comes in various formats, each having its own set of strategies. Many people choose to play poker online for free in order to learn about the various strategies of different games. Here we take a look at two popular poker games called Texas Holdem and Omaha.

Texas Holdem

In Texas Holdem, the players get two down cards as their personal hand. These two cards are known as hole cards. After players receive their cards, there is a round of betting. Three board cards are turned over simultaneously (aka the “flop”) followed by another round of betting. The successive two board cards are laid down one at a time and followed by another round of betting after flopping of each card. The board cards are group cards and the player is allowed to use either of five-card combination from the board and personal cards.

A player may choose to use all the board cards, without touching his personal cards to complete a hand (play the board). The rounds use a button known as a dealer button. This helps players keep track of who is dealing the cards, how they are to be dealt out, and who is to act first during the rounds of betting. The regular practice incorporates the use of two blinds, but you can choose to play with only a single blind, many blinds, an ante, or combination of blinds and an ante. It all depends on a collective decision of the people within the game.

Omaha Holdem

Omaha Holdem is similar to Texas Holdem except that players are dealt four board cards. Players must use exactly two hole cards and three board cards. At the end of the game, the player with the best hand must show all four cards to if they want to collect their winnings.

In summary, poker is a game that continues to grow in popularity and it does not seem to have an end to its growth in sight.  Many people choose to take part in their love of poker by playing online.  There are thousands of online poker rooms where you can play Texas Holdem and Omaha Holdem however, I would use caution when selecting an online poker room to play in.  There are only a few reputable online poker rooms on the internet; I recommend you search them out and only spend your money at these honest virtual poker establishments.  Many online poker rooms allow you to participate in tournaments which are a great way to test your skills with other like minded individuals who share your passion of this skilled game.
