David Sklansky was born in New Jersey on December 22, 1947. David spent a year at the University of Pennsylvania before he dropped out.  David became an actuary and found a quicker way to perform some calculations, but his boss said he wouldn’t tell the other workers or do anything else about David’s methods.  David soon quit that job and became a professional poker player, a job where if you know more than the other people, you’re going to make money.

David Sklansky has won three World Series of Poker bracelets, winning two events in the 1982 World Series of Poker and one in the 1983 World Series of Poker.  David won the $1000 Draw Hi and the $800 Mixed Doubles events in 1982 and the $1000 Pot Limit Omaha event in 1983.

David Sklansky is more famously known for his poker books, as he has authored or co-authored 13 different poker books.  Many professionals say they are some of the first books you should read, and Greg Raymer, the winner of the 2004 WSOP Main Event, says that Sklansky’s The Theory of Poker was the first poker book he ever read.

David Sklansky won the World Poker Tour’s Poker By The Book Invitational in 2004, where he defeated fellow poker authors, including Doyle Brunson and Mike Caro, to win the tournament.

David Sklansky prefers to play in cash games, but he will also play in tournaments.  He currently resides in Henderson, Nevada.
