John Juanda is a professional poker player who has seen and done a lot of interesting things in his life. He was born in Indonesia in 1971 and came to the United States to study at Oklahoma State University. He then went on to Seattle University to receive his MBA. John Juanda has spent time working as a door-to-door Bible salesman, and was very interested in becoming a doctor, which would’ve been his profession if he hadn’t been so successful at poker.
1996 was the year when John Juanda started playing in poker tournaments. Five years later, in 2001, he earned his first major victory by winning the World Poker Open. Since then, John Juanda has won several more major tournaments and is one of the most well-known poker players in the world.
John won his first bracelet in the 2002 World Series of Poker while playing A-5 Triple Draw Lowball. He has been runner-up for Card Player’s Tournament Player of the year award twice, in 2001 and 2002. Another honor John Juanda earned in 2002 was Tournament Champion of the Year. That still isn’t all of the awards he has earned, has he has also been awarded three Best All-Around Player awards.
John Juanda has been building up steam in recent years, winning the first Professional Poker Tour event in 200 while also making 14 other final tables in 2004. In 2005 John placed fifth in the Five-Star World Poker Classic and fifth in the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. He also started 2006 with a bang by winning 1,000,000 Australian Dollar first prize in the Crown Australian Poker Championship. Also in 2006, John placed sixth in the Monte Carlo Millions Main Event, winning $500,000, as well as a second place finish in the FullTiltPoker.Net Invitational in Monte Carlo and a first place finish in the Monte Carlo Millions Consolation Tournament.
