Lee Watkinson was born in Longbranch, Washington in 1966. He first appeared on the poker scene in 1994, but disappeared soon after, reappearing in 2003. Lee has a degree in economics and was a wrestler in college. Lee recently moved from northwest Las Vegas to Summerlin, which is on the west side of Las Vegas and is sponsored by Full Tilt Poker.
Lee Watkinson had many final table finishes in 2004, and that earned him the CardPlayer Magazine “Player of the Year” award. His 2004 performance included a second place finish in the World Series of Poker $5000 Pot Limit Omaha event. Later in 2004 Lee made back to back World Poker Tour final tables. He would finish second in both, losing to Eli Elezra in the first and the legendary Doyle Brunson in the second. Lee’s biggest poker success was in 2006 when he won the $10000 Pot Limit Omaha event. Lee is an animal rights activist, donating some of his winnings to building a sanctuary for chimpanzees. In fact, Lee said that he planned to take his girlfriend and some chimpanzees out for cake and ice cream after his victory.
Lee has played against some of the biggest names in poker and come out on top. Among the pros he is known as Lee “Sandwich” Watkinson for his tendencies to trap his opponents with sandwich raises.
