Chip Reese is one of the most well known and respected poker players of all time. He has written the seven card stud chapter for Doyle Brunson’s book Super System, and plays in the biggest games where he plays against Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, and several more famous poker players.
Chip Reese was born on March 28, 1951 as David Edward Reese. He started to play poker during grade school and constantly beat kids who were several years older. After graduating from Dartmouth College, Chip was headed west to Stanford to become a lawyer when he made a stop in Las Vegas. Chip entered a seven card stud tournament, which he won, and never made it to Stanford, staying in Las Vegas and even hiring somebody to move his belongings to Las Vegas for him.
Chip Reese has won three World Series of Poker bracelets. In 1978 he won the $1000 Seven Card Stud Split event. Chip won his second bracelet in 1982 playing $5000 Limit Seven Card Stud. In 2006, after a marathon battle in heads-up against Andy Bloch, Chip Reese won the $50000 HORSE event. The heads-up battle lasted for seven hours and 286 hands, making it the longest heads-up battle in WSOP history. The entire final table at the WSOP Main Event in 2005 lasted only 232 hands. It is fitting, though, that this record setting heads-up battle occurred at the largest buy-in event in WSOP history.
In 1991, Chip Reese began the youngest person to ever be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame at the age of 40. To date, Chip has won nearly $3 million in tournament play, which is also impressive since Chip doesn’t play in tournaments all that often.
