Very few people know the secrets of using the internet to get cheap Las Vegas airline tickets. In all reality, it can almost be the best gamble you will make on your flight to Las Vegas. I’ve flown to and from Las Vegas a numerous amount of times over the past few years, and I will tell you, from experience, that very few people on the same plane have paid the same airfare.
There’s a reason for this
Although the reason is actually complicated by a large number of variables, the simple reason is based around availability. The general consensus is that the earlier you book your flight, the cheaper the tickets will be. However, there is a way around this, but it only applies to some people. You can use your frequent flyer miles with the airline that you fly the most with to book a flight up to 1 day in advance. This could be a good way of saving yourself from a $700 to $800 round trip Las Vegas flight ticket.

Save money on Las Vegas airline tickets
As I said earlier, I’ve flown to and from Las Vegas MANY times. Through the course of time, I’ve learned a few important things about traveling the LAS airport.

1. Tickets are expensive in the Spring
Try to avoid flying to Las Vegas in the springtime, especially in March. It typically costs a minimum of $500 per ticket to travel the 3000 mile round trip that I typically travel. It sucks, but there are a few things you can do about it.
First, you can plan your trip in April instead of March. In fact, you can plan it from almost any time during the year, but avoid February and March more than any other months. The reason that I say April is because the rates for both flights and hotels plumett about 1/3 of the cost beginning on April 1st. Flight tickets will typically drop from that $500 range down to $250 to $350 from where I live. And it’s not uncommon to see hotel costs be at least $120 per night in March, no matter how crappy the hotel. It’s weird, I know, but thats just how it is.
2. Tickets are expensive when booked late
Book your Las Vegas flight tickets as early as possible. I’ve had instances where I missed my flight from Las Vegas. A one way ticket ended up costing me just short of $300… and that was in the middle of the summer where I typically pay $138 for a round trip ticket. Give yourself a minimum of 7 days to book the flight to save the most money.
3. Tickets are expensive on Fridays and Sundays.
Friday and Sunday are typically peak travel days to vacation and business locations, and Las Vegas is no exception. Try to mold your schedule so that you can arrive on a Monday and leave on a Friday. This will save you tons of money on both your flight and your hotel. Consider it a jackpot on the $0.25 slot machine without having to actually hit it.
4. Fly with a small airline
Small companies are cheaper. I don’t know why, but it just seems to always be that way. Northwest, Continental, and US Airways tend to be the most expensive when flying through the LAS airport. Small companies such as Sun Country (who I typically fly with and am a VIP member of), Southwest, and JetBlue are almost always the cheapest. Additionally, they don’t rip you off on those cheap headphones or food. Sun Country airlines actually gives you a warm meal, no matter if you’re in coach or first class. Of course, first class get better meals.
5. Check all the agent and airline websites
You’ve found the flight you want, at least you think you have. Before finalizing what you’ve found, it’s best to surf to as many online travel agencies and direct company websites as possible. Believe me, I’ve saved THOUSANDS of dollars going this. Here is my list of sites to check, with my favorites listed at the top:

- Availability
- Typically, the earlier you book, the better. When seats fill up, prices go up. The only way around this is to be part of a VIP club or frequent flyer club and use up your miles.
- Deals cut to travel agencies
- Sometimes travel agencies get sick deals on flights to Las Vegas.
- How you book
- Flight ticket prices may even depend on how you book. There can be hidden fees when booking through a travel agent, or there may be deals. It all depends on the travel agent. Check all avenues for the same flight before booking. This includes: Travel agent; online agents such as expedia.com, travelocity.com, hotwire.com, bookit.com, and local travel agency websites; website of actual airline making the flight.
