General Information
The Intertops poker name holds a long-standing tradition since they have been operating as an online sportsbook since 1996. And while the poker room has not been around quite this long, they still draw a favorable reputation just by being under this name.
Besides tradition and credibility, Intertops Poker also benefits from being part of the Cake Poker network. Cake is well known for running quality software, along with numerous cash-filled promotions. Sticking with the promos theme, this site offers big daily tournaments, land-based prize packages and a really nice VIP program.
As far as player traffic goes, Intertops Poker gets a nice boost from accepting US players. During peak hours, you will find a combined 5,000-6,000 tournament and cash game players here. You can get action at most of the limits, and both the Omaha and Hold’em sections have full games.
Layout and Features
Intertops really drums up its rich history by offering both a website and software that scream classic online poker. In an age where sleek and modern is the norm, this poker room offers a simple banner with the Intertops Poker insignia.
So does this simple approach mean players will be transported back to the year 2000, when horrid playing conditions and glitches accompanied the simplicity? Absolutely not because this room offers the same multitude of features that many other Cake network sites have, including resizable tables, multi-tabling, in-game statistics, player notes, chat function and hand histories.
Once you are in the Intertops lobby, you will find a very useful game filter tool, which lets you select tables based on the number of players, stakes and game speed (turbo or normal). This tool is extremely useful because it helps you avoid mindlessly scrolling through the lobby to find a good game.
Customer Service
The good thing about Intertops Poker’s customer support is that they provide players with numerous contact options. There are several different phone numbers (for different countries), various email addresses, several fax numbers and even live support. Use phone or live support to get a hold of this poker room as quickly as possible; you can still expect answers to your inquiries within a reasonable amount of time through email or fax.
The major drawback to customer service here is that the department has operating hours, meaning you will not be able to contact them 24/7. Those on EST can contact Intertops from 9am to 10pm, while those on GMT can speak with a customer service rep from 1pm to 2am on most days.
Competition
Like most gambling sites that are best known for their sportsbook, Intertops has more than a few bad players. As you might expect, the majority of these bad players are concentrated in the $0.02/$0.04 to $0.50/$1 stakes. Of course, you can still find the occasionally bad player in the $3/$6 or $5/$10 limits because a lot of wealthy sports bettors find their way to the poker tables.
In regards to the higher levels, the $10/$20 players on up are usually pretty solid, so you had better have an extensive knowledge of poker strategy to excel at these limits.
Games
Although Intertops is not exactly an industry leader in the selection of games they offer, you can still find a decent amount of options in the Texas Hold’em and Omaha sections. There are no-limit, pot-limit and limit variations for both Hold’em and Omaha, which should suit most players’ tastes. Both 7 Card Stud and Stud Hi-Lo are also listed as options, but there are no games when you click the buttons.
Tournaments
Drawing from the Cake network player base, Intertops Poker is able to offer a number of tournaments that cater to players of all bankroll sizes. Starting with the big events, people can participate in both the $25,000 Guaranteed and $15,000 Guaranteed on a daily basis. You can either ante up the $150 + $12 and/or $100 + $9 buy-ins to play, or jump in one of the many satellites that Intertops runs throughout the day.
The schedule drops off from here in terms of size, but you will also find daily $5k, $3k, $2k and $1k tournaments. Low limit tourney players are covered too because some of the buy-ins run as low as $0.10 + $0.05. Aside from using money for buy-ins, you can also use Gold Chips collected on the tables.
There are a large number of land-based tournament satellites offered at Intertops as well – mostly for the WSOP. All you need to do is check out the lobby to find them all.
Freerolls
Intertops Poker is not exactly a freeroll players’ paradise, and most of these prizes are merely tickets to guaranteed money tournaments. For example, the Sunday $1k Freezeout freeroll only awards the winner a $22 ticket for the corresponding event. In a sense, the easy competition at Intertops is offset by the lack of quality freerolls.
Stakes
Playable stakes at Intertops range from $0.02/$0.04 all the way up to $500/$1,000. Of course, the larger percentage of Intertops players are found in the $3/$6 stakes and lower. The highest stakes where you will find people is the $50/$100 heads-up Texas Hold’em tables.
This is a surprising level of high stakes competition, considering the fact that Intertops is not the most heavily advertised poker room out there.
Player Rewards
Though none of the Intertops rewards are overwhelmingly huge, they do offer a sizable amount of bonuses for players. By earning Frequent Player Points, people will fill up their Gold Chip Meter; earned Gold Chips can then be exchanged for cash bonuses or used to buy into tournaments for free.
This room is just full of gold because people can also pick up Gold Cards, which are randomly distributed when a table reaches the required amount of rake. The Gold Cards are used to compete in monthly promos, enter Match & Win freerolls, or sold through the Cake network’s “Exchange.”
One additional offer worth discussing is the 110% up to $600 bonus that new Intertops players can receive. To unlock each $10 increment of this bonus, you need to earn 167 FPP’s, and 1 FPP is given for every $1 in cash game rake generated, while 7 FPP’s are offered for every $1 in tournament rake paid.
