Review of PokerStars

PokerStars has and always will be the best online poker room of all. They have an extremely easy to navigate site and poker client, have a wide variety of stakes, and more real money traffic than any other online poker room. You can play in huge freeroll tournaments against other players. The best thing for Mac poker players is that a PC emulator is a fairly stable way to play PokerStars for Mac.

Layout of PokerStars (10)

The PokerStars.com and PokerStars.net website is laid out better than any other online poker room that I’ve seen. You can access just about anything you need by hovering your mouse over the top of the buttons at the top of the page.

The PokerStars.com client is also one of my favorites. Everything is super organized and it doesn’t hog all of the memory on my computer. I really like that you can upload your own custom image and display it at the poker table. This really adds a personalized touch to PokerStars.

Each game is separated by tabs, and then separated again by stakes. You can choose from all, high, middle, low, and micro. This helps players find the table that they want to play at much faster than other sites.

Customer Service at PokerStars.com (6)

PokerStars currently only offers email support. Even though their email support is extremely fast, they could answer questions much more quickly if they offered live chat or telephone support.

Competition at PokerStars (6)

The games at PokerStars have are tough overall. Most tables have a low flop view percentage which usually means tighter games. I did play a few tournaments until the final table and noticed that the tournament competition isn’t half as hard as the ring game.

Games at PokerStars (6)

PokerStars.com hosts a large variety of games including Texas Holdem, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi Lo, Omaha, and Omaha Hi Lo. These games are also available in fixed limit, no limit, and pot limit variations.

Real Money Traffic at PokerStars (10)

PokerStars is one of the largest online poker rooms on the internet today. They boast between 9000 and 11000 real money ring game players and between 65000 and 85000 real money tournament players during peak hours. These amounts are unsurpassed by any other online poker room.

Online Poker Tournaments at PokerStars (10)

PokerStars is the best place to play online poker tournaments. As you can see above, they have the most poker tournament players of any poker room. They also have their tournaments setup so the blinds increase every 10 minutes, a nice feature indeed. Players receive 1500 chips, making it easier for advanced players to win. Fixed limit games seat 10 players per table while pot limit and no limit games seat 9 players per table.

Freerolls (7)

You can participate in freerolls at PokerStars. There are completely free freerolls and there are also freerolls where real money players can buy in for a few hundred players club points. You can always count on the fact that your freeroll won’t be full at PokerStars.com. I participated in one at 10:00pm that had 9007 players register to play. The thing that stinks though is that PokerStars freerolls have frugal payouts.

They also have VIP player freerolls ranging from $2500 to $10000 for weekly games and they also have a $100,000 monthly freeroll.

Stakes at PokerStars (9)

You can find both micro stakes and high stakes at PokerStars.com. Fixed limit stakes range from $0.02/$0.04 to $100/$200 while pot limit and no limit stakes range from $0.01/$0.02 up to $10/$20. They also sort their games using several tabs: All, High, Medium, Low and Micro.

Private Games at PokerStars (5)

Private tournaments can be setup at PokerStars, but I couldn’t find a place to setup private ring games.

Deposit Bonuses at PokerStars (5)

Receive your 100% to $50 first time deposit bonus by using our link to PokerStars.com. Enter PokerStars bonus code First2008 into the sign up form and make your first real money deposit.

Players Reward System at PokerStars (8)

PokerStars can earn frequent player points. These points may be used to play in special freeroll tournaments or they can be used to purchase products from the FPP store for PokerStars merchandise.

Compatible Operating Systems at PokerStars (4)

Poker stars is directly compatible with Windows. To play PokerStars for Mac you can download and install a PC emulator. Surprisingly, PokerStars for Mac is pretty stable on most PC emulators.
